Barry's Sunday Service 21/03/21
Something to read and ponder about while dunking a biscuit (that's a "cookie" for my Mericun chums) into a cup of tea on a Sunday.
So, lets get into it...
TIP / OPINION / WHAT I DID
This week, I want to chat about Appsumo.
For those who have never heard of Appsumo, it is a platform that enables product owners to offer a limited time offers for lifetime deals on their products.
Most online service products are sold as a subscription. You pay monthly or yearly for an account and if you stop paying, you stop being able to use the product. Lifetime deals are, therefore, quite attractive if you find a product that you will actually use.
So, that is the main upside - if you buy something that would normally cost you, say, $27 a month for a one-time fee of $59, then you are good after a couple of months usage.
But it can be a bit of a gamble. Some of these companies will be start-ups with not a great deal of track record behind them. Occasionally, they don't make it long term. and fail, or sometimes the product becomes a bit out of date.
But balance that against this...
Back in 2012, a small company called Intercom went on Appsumo. This is what you see as the chatbot help on most of the biggest sites out there and is the benchmark for it's many imitators. Back then, you could have got a lifetime account for $39.
Everyone these days has heard of Zapier. It has 30 million users. Back in 2013, they offered a lifetime paid plan for just $39. Incredible, eh?
How I wished I had spotted those back then!
I have bought 27 deals over the last few years. Some of these I use all the time - Paperform, History Search, Cloudapp, Malcare, LiveAgent, and Beacon to name a few.
Some I use occasionally but still use them. There are only about half a dozen that I ditched.
I have some serious tools that I can use as much as I want without paying anything beyond my initial outlay - usually between $50 - $100.
I do want to share one real life example of what these things can bring you, though
Back in 2016, Andie Brocklehurst & I were on a call and we decided to go and have a look at what was new on Appsumo. We spotted a fantastic deal on a graphics tool that looked very, very impressive.
That tool is called Stencil.
We both bought it and had a play with it while we were still on the video call.
We were thinking of ways we could use it and, as the call went on, we mapped out a potential product that we could make using the app.
A month later, we launched the product together and it brought us both thousands of dollars.
More recently, I have used Stencil to create print quality designs for some mugs I have been selling as a side hustle.
I mention this because I noticed that Stencil is available as a lifetime deal on Appsumo again at the moment.
The point of all this? Well, keep an eye out for these kind of bargains - see if you have a use for the products (waste of money if you don't) and grab a bargain (I sometimes send an email about deals if I spot a good 'un).
There. Good advice for a Sunday

I have been looking into a new product about list building. I may do a video review if i really like it. Watch out for that.
