Barry's Sunday Service 24/01/21
Something to read and ponder about while dunking a biscuit (that's a "cookie" for my Mericun chums) into a cup of tea on a Sunday.
Dearly Beloved,
So, lets get into it...
TIP / OPINION / WHAT I DID
There are a couple of things this week...
The "big" news came from Clickbank. Clearly Paypal no longer "wants to do business" with Clickbank.
The difference with Clickbank (it being so massive) is that it wasn't just cast off without any notice like every other customer who they turn against is.
Clickbank put out a notice telling product creators that they have a month to integrate their own Paypal accounts into Clickbank if they want Paypal to remain an option on the Clickbank checkout page.
For those who have not used Clickbank to sell products, this is a bit strange. You see, Clickbank acts as the retailer of people's products (the vendor effectively being the wholesaler). Customers are constantly reminded of this - there has to be non-scrollable CB branding on sales and delivery pages as well as many reminders that the vendo will show up as CB on statements.
As the vendor, it levies, collects and administers any sales tax or VAT globally.
So, who knows how the new Paypal integration will work in that scenario?
To put it into context, imagine a supermarket stocking products from 1000 suppliers. Let's say that the supermarket accepted Paypal (you can do this with a card reader) but then, just as it was popular, pulled the plug. So you would have to pay the individual supplier direct at the supermarket checkout if you wanted to pay with Paypal.. Crazy.
I will not bother integrating my Paypal. I feel that, these days with browsers securely storing credit card details, it is as easy to check out using a card as with Paypal anyway.
On to something inspiring...
Last week, the USA had a new president sworn into office. I am sure you noticed.
Perhaps the most shared image (in so many ways) in the following days - has it only been 4 days!? - has been the one of Bernie Saunders sat in his mittens and mask.
It has been used in countless memes and photoshopped in all sorts of bizarre and funny locations.
But how could you capitalize on a massive "trending" thing like that and make money as an online marketer?
Well, one person has. Really quite impressively.
Tobey King is a whizz at crochet. She has exploited her passion by selling pdf crochet patterns on Etsy. Just the pdfs - not the finished items as seen in her store images.
She wasted no time in creating a "Bernie In Mittens" pattern and getting it out there.
Well, they say money loves speed...
At the time of writing (the amount changes every time I refresh the page) she has sold 25,640 pdfs at $5 each.
That is $128,200. In less than 4 days!

So, the moral is.... Think how you can ride a trend. How can you make money? Then act fast.
There. Good advice for a Sunday
